Cameron Can - A Story of Strength
Meet Cameron. Cameron can walk, run, jump and climb. Cameron can joke, poke fun at his brother, hug his parents, roll his eyes at the photographer trying to make him laugh, and share his favorite activities with friends. Cameron can do anything.
And Cameron can do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING after FIVE brain surgeries, one spinal cord surgery and countless procedures and hospitalizations. See, Cameron was born with a host of medical conditions affecting his brain, heart, kidney, diaphragm and spinal cord, none of which are curable. And Cameron simply CAN’T let any of that stop him from living his best life with his awesome brother and parents.
I met the incredible Dominick family through a session contest I hosted at a local charity event. We met St. Patrick’s Day morning in the gorgeous town of Riverside, IL. Riverside is full of curved, tree-lined streets, incredible architecture and a beautiful, historic downtown district. We strolled though town, hopping back in our cars to warm up that morning. My favorite photo of the session is where, now 12-year-old Cameron, was running down the local library ramp. His mom and dad said, they had a similar photo from when he was very young, and it is just that much more special because they didn’t know if, or when, he would be able to run at all. And now, Cameron Can.
His parents founded the Cameron Can Foundation in 2010 to help families who need long term medical care for their children. Unfortunately in today’s world of insurance companies and medical coverage, there is very little support for many who suffer from chronic medical conditions. Put simply, the mission of the Cameron Can Foundation is that “no child should be denied a bright future because of the need for ongoing medical care.”
